Prosecco – It’s what’s for breakfast

I’ve been obsessed with DOCG Prosecco from the Valdobbiadene region of Italy since I was first introduced to it a few years ago.
Recently, I participated in a creme-de-la-creme testing of some of the best wines from Italy, via Gambero Rosso, the leading authority of Italian food & wine. Through its Tre Bicchieri tasting (from home, of course), we began a journey of epic proportions.
The Biancavigna Conegliano Valdobbiadene D.O.C.G. Dosaggio Zero Rive di Soligo Prosecco Superiore Millesimato (wait, all that for one wine?) is happiness in a glass.
Made from 98% Glera (the grape you are required to use to cal lit Prosecco) and a bit of other things, this fizz is the opposite of a sweet, dull mass produced Prosecco. The brut zero (aka only a teeny amount of sugar in each liter) is absolutely chalky, clean and bright.
Grown at over 1200 feet, the high altitude helps maintain the acidity that leads to to the fresh faced, youthful happiness of Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco. The first sip is like biting in to a ripe Bartlett pear and Asian pear, with a mouth-full of white flowers dancing around.
The fresh mineral finish actually reminds me of a day at the beach, and the finish of freshly baked bread lingers like the smile on my face.
Clocking in at under $25, this is one of the best value sparklers I have had. Go out and find this wine!
